The Bavarian Mountain Hound is a skilled hunter who finds prey by following a blood trail. The name of the breed is translated from German as “bloodhound”. This breed's sense of smell is extremely sensitive, and it is able to detect the scent of an animal even if it was walking through water or along an old road. Long, wide ears help keep scent close to the nose.
The Bavarian hound chases and catches prey, calling its owner with a loud bark. They are not aggressive and do not need to attack animals. They are adventurous, resilient and run fast over rough terrain. These dogs are brave, strong, adapt to different weather conditions and are people-oriented.
I n addition to hunting, these qualities can be used in search and rescue operations. In many cases, dogs of this breed are used by the police, the Ministry of Emergency Situations and customs. They participate in scent search, coursing, Frisbee, freestyle and agility competitions. They are sometimes bred as companions, although the German Bavarian Mountain Hound Club does not encourage such use of the breed.
The Bavarian Mountain Hound is an excellent breed for hunters and foresters. They naturally demonstrate strong hunting instincts and have excellent sense of smell. However, they also thrive on urban plains.
The Bavarian Mountain Hound is a very special and quite rare breed. Therefore, it is not suitable for everyone and cannot be used as a guard, guard or decorative sofa dog.
The breed is characterized by a black mask on its face. The ears should also be black. There is a black spot on the tail and the back may be black. There may be white spots on the chest.
Unlike many hunting dogs, the Bavarian Mountain Hound is more people-oriented. They are loyal, attached to their owners and never run away. When hunting, they regularly return to their owners, leaving them in pursuit of prey.
These dogs definitely need communication and attention, love affection and get bored alone. They do not impose themselves, behave tactfully and are almost invisible at home. However, they are always ready to support the game and try to participate in all the activities of their owners. Many owners note that they have a good sense of humor and can be cunning.
